Talk to me about a place where you can be yourself.

I feel like I can be myself in my newsroom where I work each day. The people and the managers, all accept me for who I am and support me however they’re able to do that.

What has been your biggest or most meaningful moment so far?

My biggest and most meaningful moment has been when I came out publicly, really. I had the opportunity to let people know who I REALLY AM and how I want to live in this life and be a part of this team. That has been an incredibly happy moment for me.

If you were to win an award, what will be your theme song or your walk-up music?

I think my walk-up song would be Fighter by Christina Aguilera. Love that song. That was a great album too. I like her. I always have. And that song speaks to me so.

What has been one of your best stories you’ve written or your favorite?

For a long time I covered the courts beat when I was in California, and I enjoyed writing stories for families of victims that gave them a sense of justice 鈥 letting people in the community know who their loved ones were that were affected by violence or crime and giving those families some sense of closure. Oh my God! That sense of justice really helped. I love that we continuously tell stories about the communities we serve. And I think the beautiful part of it is that we have amazing stories from the intersectional lens where we can truly impact the lives of others.

If you can talk about something for 30 minutes without preparation, what would it be?

It would be what I do for a living and why I do it. Why I’m a journalist and what it means to me. I could just go on and on and on and on.

Finish this sentence. If I am not working, you can find me________

You can find me in a local bookstore where I get a chance to meet other people and read books that will increase my knowledge about whatever topic I’m interested in at the moment. But I can spend hours, and hours in a bookstore.
